Canyons of Konorchek or Eolian rocks occupy the eastern and quite a vast territory of Kyrgyz Ala-Too Range. They are distinguished by their bright red color.
Kyrgyz red-colored complex of sedimentary rocks is consist predominantly of clays, siltstones and sandstones. Color is caused by oxides of iron. Same rocks can be seen in some areas of Kyrgyzstan.
Here, between Komorchek and Kyzylsu river nature has transformed mountains into a work of art. Dry, with specific types of drought-resistant vegetation, canyons looks like of fantastic dilapidated castles, ancient temples, modern skyscrapers, columns and spires.
We offer you a program for a weekend where you can go up to the pass of 2320 meters in height, offering spectacular views. You can also walk on the bottom of canyons or climb on fancy rocks.
Sure, one day is not enough to see all beauty, look at all interesting corners. But that is enough to get a lasting impression and come back one more time with friends.
8 a.m. Leaving Bishkek
The road leads to the east from Bishkek city. Approximately in 2 hours, journey begins by foot in the Boom gorge. We will go through narrow rocky labyrinth with steep walls, sometimes the width is less than one meter. The canyon takes us to the wide valley surrounded by fancy red castles appears in front of us.
After lunch we go towards Sulu-Terek pass (2320m) on a barely visible trail. There are amazing views on the way. Behind every corner of the canyon surprises are waiting for you: bizarre rocks or even rabbits and partridge.
On the approach to the pass we can overlook the way we have just passed. You can take magnificent pictures from a panorama of “Grand Canyon”. To visit that canyons, we need for special expedition with overnight stays in tents. We go down across south. We are to explore the most interesting parts and take memorable pictures.
